RESUMEN Se presentó un caso de una paciente de 78 años de edad, procedente del municipio de Calimete, con antecedentes patológicos personales de infarto agudo miocárdico sin elevación del segmento ST e hipertensión arterial. Llegó a la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos de Emergencia, de Colón con un estado toxico infeccioso severo. Fue intervenida quirúrgicamente con el diagnóstico presuntivo de una trombosis mesentérica. Se constató dicho diagnóstico complementario a una neoplasia maligna de colon sigmoides. Falleció producto a un shock séptico refractario a aminas. En la necropsia se reportaron hallazgos de interés.

ABSTRACT The authors present the case of a 78-years-old female patient from the municipality of Calimete, with personal pathological antecedents of acute myocardial infarct without ST segment elevation and arterial hypertension. She arrived to the Emergency Intensive Care Unit of Colon with a severe toxic-infectious status. She underwent a surgery with a presumptive mesenteric thrombosis. It was stated that diagnosis, complementary to a sigmoid colon malignant neoplasia. She died as a product of an amine-refractory septic shock. The autopsy showed findings of interest.

El pensamiento ético de José Martí en la formación del médico cubano / The ethical thought of José Marti in the training of the Cuban physician

RESUMEN El pensamiento ético de José Martí juega un papel fundamental en la formación integral de las nuevas generaciones de profesionales de la salud. Este trabajo analiza varias ideas martianas acerca del humanismo, la solidaridad y la moral, a la luz de las actuales necesidades de la formación de estos profesionales en Cuba. La aplicación creadora de su pensamiento humanista en las nuevas circunstancias históricas demanda un mayor esfuerzo por parte de los educadores (AU).

ABSTRACT The ethical thought of José Marti plays an important role in the professional training of the new generations of health professionals. This work analyses several Jose Marti's ideas on humanism, solidarity and moral values, in the light of the current necessities of these professionals´ training in Cuba. The creative application of his humanist thought in the new historical circumstances demands a greater effort of the educators (AU).

El síndrome de Sturge-Weber consiste, en su forma completa, en la asociación de anomalías cerebrales, cutáneas y oculares. Desde el punto de vista clínico, se caracteriza por una mancha color vino en la cara, epilepsia, retraso mental, otras manifestaciones neurológicas deficitarias y glaucoma. Se presentó el caso de un paciente de 9 años de edad, masculino, piel negra, producto de parto eutócico, con peso de 4 200 g y antecedentes patológicos perinatales de cianosis, constatándose desde el nacimiento varios hemangiomas faciales. Al examen físico se confirma en cara y cráneo, una frente huidiza con presencia del hemangioma facial o hemangioma coroideo, glaucoma unilateral izquierdo, micrognatia. Se precisó mala oclusión dentaria, y en las extremidades superiores una clinodactilia del quinto dedo. Además, tiene el tronco asimétrico, retraso mental severo y aparecen cuadros convulsivos tónico-clónicos que repiten frecuentemente. Teniendo en cuenta todos estos elementos se comienza a sospechar el posible diagnóstico de un síndrome de Sturge-Weber (AU).

The Sturge-Weber syndrome is, in its complete form, the association of ocular, cutaneous and cerebral anomalies. From the clinical point of view, it is characterized by a wine-color spot on the face, epilepsy, mental retardation, other neurological deficit manifestations and glaucoma. We presented the case of a male, black patient, aged 9 years, who was born by eutocic delivery, with 4 200 g weight, and perinatal symptoms of cyanosis, finding several facial hemangioma from the moment of birth. At the physical examination, it was confirmed on the face and crania, evasive forehead with facial hemangioma or choroidal hemangioma, left unilateral glaucoma, micrognathia. Dental malocclusion was stated and clinodactyly of the fifth finger. Besides that, he has an asymmetric trunk, severe mental retardation and tonic-clonic convulsive episodes frequently repeated. Taking into account all these elements we began to suspect the possible diagnosis of a Sturge-Weber syndrome (AU).

Mario Muñoz Monroy, vanguardista de su tiempo / Mario Muñoz Monroy, an avant-gardist of his time

El presente trabajo tiene el objetivo de fundamentar porqué se puede considerar a Mario Muñoz Monroy un vanguardista de su tiempo. Para ello se realizó una intensa investigación que permitió recoger testimonios inéditos que muestran la preocupación de Mario ante el sufrir ajeno y su capacidad de tratar a todos por igual, cualidades que sin dudas se deben tener en cuenta en cada momento de la formación integral del médico en Cuba. Además se evidencia cómo Mario Muñoz Monroy fue un joven integral apasionado por el deporte, la radio y la aviación. Se concluye con la afirmación de que el hombre nuevo que se quiere formar en las universidades de las ciencias médicas, estará incompleto sin el conocimiento de la vida de este valeroso hombre que es sin dudas un ejemplo para todos los cubanos (AU).

The current work is aimed to explain why it can be considered that Mario Muñoz Monroy is an avant-gardist of his time. For that reason, an intensive research was developed allowing collecting unknown testimonies that show Mario's preoccupation for the suffering of other people and his capacity of treating everybody in the same way, qualities that should be considered at every moment of the physician's integral training in Cuba. It also evidences how Mario Muñoz Monroy was an integral young man that loved sport, radio communication and aviation. As a conclusion it is stated that the new man we want to prepare in Medical Sciences universities will be incomplete without knowing this courageous man's life that is an example for all the Cuban people (AU).
